I like the email newsletter that applied vitals recently sent out. I especially like that it shares the same design with the website. Can you share how it all comes together and whether this is something that can be done for other clients?
vonquatt - thanks for asking and thanks for the kind words.
Yes, email marketing and list management is a service that we offer clients. Take a closer look at http://appliedwebvitals.com/services-email-marketing.php. Email marketing is managed through a back-end server application and there are several steps to getting a campaign in place.
1. The first step is having a list of subscribers. If you have a preexisting list or database of contacts, it can be uploaded to server to get started. At the same time, a submission form can be integrated into your site to continue or start building a subscriber list.
2. When you're ready to send an email newsletter out to your subscribers, you'll have three format options - send a basic text email, use an html template that we have already designed, or use a custom html template or your own. The Applied Vitals newsletter template was a custom one that I built to match the website. Unfortunately, the html from your website isn't a good candidate for mail clients so a new and simple file will need to be built to include the application's proprietary template language.
3. List management (subscription, unsubscription, account updates) is all built into the server application. To allow recipients to unsubscribe themselves, a link can automatically generated by the software and included in the email. Another great feature is the ability to personalize email (i.e. insert the recipients first name) with whatever information is in the database. If you're building your list from subscriptions foff your website, you'll need to include form fields for each piece of information that you want to collect.
4. Campaign management, or measuring the effectiveness of your email newsletters---how many were received and opened, how many recipients clicked through to your site, and so on---is all built into the server application. Try out several templates or test different subject lines over time to see what is most effective. Your account will keep reports as well as archive past mailings.
